For year people have battled overheating on the Ford and Mercury Flathead engines. One of the reasons is the coolant flow rate. When an engine overheats and people experiment they can sometimes point to the wrong cause for the effect. It is a fallacy that low flow causes overheating. The reality is higher flow rates in a pressurized system will help shed the heat.
This is not a replica of the OEM cast iron impeller with thick vanes, a shallow eye and irregular density inherent in pouring sand castings. Our impeller is precision machined from 6061 billets of aluminum. It has more vanes, and opened up eye and thinner vane walls to draw more fluid flow into and out of this pump and through your block and into the radiator.
Getting hot coolant into the radiator more frequently will provide more opportunities to shed the heat. At higher rpms you'll build block pressure to reduce the likelihood of steam vapor forming on the jacket wall. This impeller design achieves greater flow rates, higher head pressure and a more efficient flow. The impeller color is due to Type II Class II military grade surface coating which protects against corrosive fluids.
FlowKooler introduced the first hi flow pumps and continues to improve impeller design. Why is increased flow so important to cooling a hot inline 6 engine? Because it has been proven time and time again that reducing the cycle time between the heat source and the heat sink creates more opportunities to shed heat and drop engine temperatures.
From 0-3,300 RPM…Nothing Beats a FlowKooler!
